I created this blog "Secondary Scientist" because my first year teaching was quite a challenging experience and I looked for teachers online that were similar to me. I hoped to find teachers that would be open about their experiences in the classroom and I didn't find many during my first year. My goal to build a sense of camaraderie online for other "Secondary Scientists" through this blog. I hope to chronicle this year while engaging my readers with tips and tricks for running successful labs and providing the online science teaching community with high-quality resources.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I believe the classroom is a laboratory where exciting experiments are conducted and a debate hall where exciting discourse takes place. I do my best to set up a context where students feel safe to express new ideas, are respected enough to ask real questions, and are empowered enough to become the best versions of themselves. I respect each person's thoughts and feelings by listening to the student's requests and cultivating a climate that allows them choices within a consistent, structured environment.

I became a teacher because I believe wholeheartedly in the importance of education. I set high expectations for my students and for myself, when those goals are met; we pursue even higher goals. We do not stagnate within my classroom. I get excited for the possibilities of the new school year, the chances to implement new strategies, and the potential to build solid relationships with my students.

I look forward to starting this journey with you
